Up your hydration game

There seems to be little correlation between salt intake alone and high blood pressure. In some of the culture’s studied – higher salt consumption seems to suggest longer life expectancy – “…a low-salt diet may actually lead to serious health consequences and higher overall mortality, particularly in conditions like heart disease and diabetes…, a low salt intake is associated with higher mortality from cardiovascular events… the lowest risk of death for sodium excretion [is] between 4 and 5.99 grams per day…

Do you talk to clients about their iron levels?

Do you talk to clients about their iron levels?

Iron deficiency is becoming more and more common, to a point where I often ask my clients when they last had their iron levels tested. Iron deficiency is not as common in men because they don't have a menstruation cycle each month and lose valuable iron stores. 90% of the female clients I've worked with either have an iron deficiency or have had one in the past.

Iron is an important nutrient, and it's rather scary how many people, especially women, are deficient in iron. It's also worth noting that too much iron is not healthy, and it's important to have your iron levels checked regularly.

Can you make money as a health and fitness professional?

When it comes to being a personal training, coach, or gym owner, many people think they can start a new business and tell a few people that they are now a qualified fitness professional that can help them “get fit” or ”become the best version of themselves.” Unfortunately, it’s not that easy. It’s even harder to build an online business with this approach.

Let’s start with who am I to tell you about building a successful and profitable career in the health and fitness industry?

Why health and fitness goals often fail to deliver results?

Why health and fitness goals often fail to deliver results?

“What are your health and fitness goals?” It’s a common question asked by many health and fitness professionals all over the world. It seems like an easy question to answer, and most clients will rattle off how many kilograms they want to lose, what dress/pant size they want to fit into, what they want their blood sugar numbers to be, or how much they want to deadlift, squat and bench press.

Unfortunately “outcome goals” like these can sabotage our clients progress. Why? Outcome goals often focus on the things that are out of our control while, simultaneously, distracting us from the things that we can control. We have control over our daily behaviours and if we can change our behaviours, we can change our lives (what a great business motto).

What's your unique coaching ability?

If there’s one skill to master that allows you to make more money doing what you love, it’s understanding your Unique Ability. As health and fitness professionals we are all unique - from our experiences, our knowledge and skills, our passions, values, goals, and the things that energise and motivate us to get out of bed and work with our clients. Unfortunately, many of us downplay our uniqueness because we’ve never acknowledged or appreciated our talents.

Often, the things we are best at are so ingrained in us; we don’t recognise them as being special or unique. If your ambition is to take charge and build the business and lifestyle that you want, finding your unique ability is a sure-fire route to getting there.

Keep stress at bay with mindful diaphragmatic breathing

Left unchecked, stress can lead to headaches, weight gain, muscle tension, high blood pressure, sleep problems, and low libido, just to name but a few consequences. When stress becomes chronic the physiological responses can become destructive. The body starts to produce too much adrenaline too frequently which can lead to adrenal fatigue, leaving us tired, anxious and irritable. High levels of stress can suppress immune function [7], accelerate cellular ageing [6], and promoting an earlier onset of age-related diseases.

Why should health & fitness professionals be recommending bone broth?

Why should health & fitness professionals be recommending bone broth?

As health and fitness professionals we can sometimes be quick to recommend supplements to our clients. Supplements should be an addition to a healthy sustainable diet and only used when needed. If the nutrients we need can be obtained from food sources, we should be promoting these first. Mother Nature designed out food to contain an abundance of vitamins, minerals, enzymes and co-factors that are essential to our survival. Processed foods are often void, or very low, on these nutrients and this is why so many people are deficient in key nutrients. As health and fitness professionals we should be helping our clients make smart dietary choices and adding foods such as bone broth to their diet.

DAY 25- CHICKEN AND VEG ONE-POT

A variation of my flatmate’s most cooked dish. You can use any vegetables you like, it’s a great way to use ingredients that have been forgotten in the fridge and it leaves you with just one pan to wash after dinner.

DAY 10- LAMB TAGINE

“What would you like, darling?”

“Lamb?”

“What lamb?”

I knew that was coming. “I don’t know!” All I can think about is the happy little lamb jumping on its 4 legs all at the same time in a green field, here I am asking for a part of the dead lamb. “God, I don’t know!”

“How many people are you feeding?”

“Five!”, that’s a lie, I’ve become a regular here and even my little man knows it’s not five of us quarantined in the flat. But he accomodates.
